Plac Czerwonych Gitar, located near Wrzeszcz railway station in the lively district of Gdańsk, offers great potential as a vibrant public space. This project honors the spirit of the famous Polish rock band Czerwone Gitary, founded at the historic Café Cristal on the square. Our design transforms the area into a multifunctional place that attracts both locals and tourists by blending recreation, culture, and sustainable urban development.
We addressed the area’s architectural diversity and inconsistent streetscape by unifying the square’s identity and improving urban flow. Klonowa Street’s chaotic parking and narrow sidewalks are redesigned to include comfortable pedestrian paths, bike lanes, and bicycle parking, enhancing accessibility and safety. The square now hosts a stage for concerts, dance space, food trucks, and a pétanque area to encourage social interaction and support the musical heritage.
Our landscape design respects biodiversity with four distinct green zones, incorporating native species and preserving existing vegetation, while linking to nearby parks to form an extended urban greenery network. Sustainable water management includes natural filtration systems and flood-resistant planting, reducing rainwater runoff and supporting the local ecosystem.
This revitalized Plac Czerwonych Gitar combines cultural memory with innovative landscape architecture to create a year-round destination for community life and urban harmony.
